Rapper and nice guy 50 Cent is tired of trying to prove his creative abilities to entertainment’s most elite establishments. As fans gear up to tune into Starz drama Power this summer, the rapper has realized there’s an approval he won’t obtain-Hollywood.
Since the magnetic drama took off in June 2014, the series gained a strong following in what Variety called the biggest concentrated black audience for a scripted premium series since HBO’s “The Wire” in 2006. It also took the cake in ratings for a summer series by doubling its viewership between the first and second season. Created by The Good Wife alumna Courtney Kemp Agboh, the show looks into the life of James St. Patrick, played by Omari Hardwick.
Known by his street name Ghost, Hardwick’s character is caught in the life of leading New York’s largest drug ring and managing the city’s biggest nightclub. While the show has strong leads–Naturi Haughton as Ghost’s wife Tasha and Joseph Sikora as his right-hand man Tommy–the show faced mixed reaction from critics.
With the premiere a little over a month away, Mr. Jackson took to Instagram to air out some of his frustrations with his critics. His woes seemed to return after discovering the theme for show “Big Rich Town,” performed by himself and R&B vet Joe, won’t be considered for award season.

This wasn’t the first time the rapper faced creative issues with the show. When the Fox hit Empire premiered in 2015, Jackson accused the show’s creators of stealing their images and musical elements. “Their show is … the artwork was very similar they used ‘power’ in the tagline … they didn’t have to do that,” Jackson said at a Television Critics Association event last year.
