Channing Dungey made history Wednesday (February 17) when it was announced she was appointed president of ABC Entertainment Group, making her the first African-American woman to be appointed the position. Dungey replaces outgoing president Paul Lee.
Dungey was previously the executive vice president and responsible for ABC’s drama department. Under Dungey’s tutelage the network launched it’s primetime successful shows Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder and Nashville.
“Channing is a gifted leader and a proven magnet for top creative talent, with an impressive record of developing compelling, breakthrough programming that resonates with viewers,” Disney-ABC Television Group chairman Ben Sherwood said in a statement.
Congrats to Dungey.
