Variety reports that celebrated actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Oz, Lost, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) will be taking on not one, but two villain roles in the upcoming Marvel Studios film Thor: The Dark World. In the film, which finds Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the Asgardian thunder god, Akinnuoye-Agbaje will play Algrim the Strong and Kurse.
Comic book fans will note Algrim’s first appearance in Thor #347 where the dark elf was one of the most powerful amongst his clan. After being coerced to attack Thor by Malekith the Accursed (who will be played by Christopher Eccleston), Algrim is betrayed by his allegiances and subsequently falls to his death alongside Thor. While both survived, Algrim developed amnesia after experiencing shock of falling into lava and is transformed into the much more malevolent being known as Kurse.
Thor: The Dark World is tagged with a November 8, 2013 release and features the return of Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Natalie Portman as the love interest Jane Foster. Game of Thrones‘ Alan Taylor is stepping behind the camera to direct the Marvel action flick.
