
After giving birth to her son Egypt two years ago, putting the final touches on her “Girl On Fire” album, Alicia Keys continues to expand her queendom. The singer is now launching an interactive mobile app for the youth around the globe. “The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee” is about a young New York City girl’s relationship with her wise-beyond-her-years grandmother, and is loosely based on Keys’ own life. Taking place in LeeLee’s bedroom, and it allows users to read books, play music and write in a journal. Keys commented on the digital experience, saying, “It’s a new adventure for me, and I’m really enjoying it. It does remind me of my world. The piano, the journal, music’s such a big part of my life, the city, all of that.”
Keys, who produced music exclusively for the app, is launching it through her company AK Worldwide and Bento Box Interactive. It is available now for Android/iPhone app stores for $3.99.
