Just when we thought Marvel’s Black Panther film couldn’t get any more lit, the comic franchise surprised us with another cast addition. Marvel announced Monday (Nov. 21) that Angela Bassett would be joining the already jam-packed cast.
Bassett, who is currently acting on FX’s American Horror Story: Roanoke, will reportedly play Ramonda, mother of T’Challa aka, Black Panther (played by Chadwick Boseman), according to the official news release. Ramonda is apparently the former Queen of Wakanda and wife of T’Chaka, Black Panther’s father.
The Academy-Award nominated actress is already joining an all-star cast. In the recent months leading up to the highly-anticipated release, Marvel casted Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira, and Forest Whitaker. The film is directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler, who has previously worked on Creed and Fruitvale Station.
In celebration of Black Panther’s all-black cast and narrative, many fans have taken to Twitter, using the hashtag, #BlackPantherSoLit. Black Panther will hit theaters February 16, 2018.
