After undergoing a double mastectomy, film star Angelina Jolie is set to play someone close to her in a new film—her own mother.
The Oscar award winning actress revealed to the world last week that she discovered she was carrying the BRCA1 gene, which meant she had an 87 percent chance of contracting breast cancer and a 50 percent chance of suffering from ovarian cancer. With the life threatening issue at hand, she decided surgery was the best decision for her and her family — a decision that her own mother did not get a chance to make.
Jolie’s mother, the late Marcheline Bertrand, passed away from cancer in 2007 at the age of 56. And in a stunning display of life imitating art, Jolie is slated to portray her biological mum in a biopic which will be made by her partner Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company.
According to The Sun, the biopic will go into production next year, but does not yet have a release date.
Much like her famous sibling, Marcheline was known for her humanitarian work and helped female Afghan refugees during the course of her life. She also launched the Give Love Give Life organization in an effort to help fight gynecological cancers. The 37-year-old Salt star — who raises children Maddox, 11, Pax, nine, Zahara, eight, Shiloh, six, and twins Knox and Vivienne, four, with Brad — has previously described her late mother as “grace incarnate”.
“I feel blessed that she was around to see both my brother and I in a nice place,” Jolie said. “She waited till everyone was OK. Then she closed her eyes.”
