Guess Jason Momoa will be heading to the unemployment line now that Arnold has taken back the role that originally made him an international star!
Deadline reports that Universal Pictures has cut a deal for “The Legend of Conan,” an action film slated for 2014 release that will star Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising the role that launched his movie career in 1982.
The film will be produced by Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan, whose previous credits include being a part of the last four (yes, four!) “Fast and the Furious” films. Schwarzenegger starred in “Conan: The Barbarian” and “Conan: The Destroyer,” before moving on to James Cameron’s “Terminator” — a film that propelled him into the Hollywood stratosphere. Last year, Millennium Films revived the Conan concept in a film that starred Jason Momoa, but it wasn’t as successful as the original incarnation.
Malmberg tells Deadline that his iteration of the “Conan” film will pick up where “The Destroyer” left off, saying, “The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make. It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”
