If 2016 has proven anything to us, it’s that Ava DuVernay is in the business of making history. Right on the heels of making headlines with the prompt Season 2 approval for her OWN TV series, Queen Sugar, the Selma and Middle of Nowhere director turned heads with another applause-worthy bit of news. DuVernay will be the first African-American female director to spearhead a film with $100 million plus budget.
The film of the hour is A Wrinkle in Time, the Disney flick she’ll be collaborating with Oprah Winfrey on. According to Deadline and Women in Hollywood, in addition to its own production budget, Wrinkle was allocated the highest amount of tax credits from the California Film Commission, tallying in at over $18 million.
Congrats to Ava on this noteworthy feat.
