Say what you want about Azealia Banks’ controversial mouth and it getting her into trouble. The chick is still winning in these entertainment streets. She’s already snagged a Playboy cover, shut down two Coachella sets and shared that her next album, Business & Pleasure, is “half-finished.”
Now, the Broke With Expensive Taste rapper will be making her movie debut in the very near future. According to Deadline, Banks has been tapped to star in the RZA-directed feature film, Coco, by Lionsgate and Codeblack Films. Her character will stay within the vein of her expertise, as she’ll play a young, aspiring rapper from Brooklyn whose parents just want her to finish college. She obliges, but finds her hip-hop calling through spoken word.
This starring role in the drama is huge for Banks in more ways than one. She’ll be acting alongside a star-studded roster of talent, such as Common, Jill Scott, Lucien Laviscount, Lorraine Toussaint and Hana Mae Lee, in addition to working with the legendary Wu-Tang Clan member. The film, whose script comes from Nicole Jefferson Asher—will be produced by Paul Hall and overseen by John Sacchi, Bree Bailey and Jessica Switch.
Clap for the kid.
