Calvin’s Barbershop is back in business. The trailer for the highly-anticipated film, Barbershop: The Next Cut, is set to premiere in theaters in 2016, and to prepare you for your inevitable fall out from laughter at the movies, the team released the official trailer for the reel.
Starring franchise staples, Eve, Cedric The Entertainer, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Calvin himself, played by Ice Cube, the expert clippers also usher in new faces featuring Nicki Minaj, Regina Hall and Common. The synopsis of this film takes a more current turn, centering around the looming gun violence surrounding their Chicago-based shop, a topic that speaks to the recent times of violence within the Illinois city. The mood might remain light with the comedic aspect, but it’s eye-opening to see this plight play out on the silver screen next year for audiences nationwide.
This installment will follow 11 years since the last movie, Barbershop 2 (2004), which also starred Queen Latifah, Kenan Thompson, and DeRay Davis. The film has grossed over $64 million since its debut, IMDb reports.
There’s no exact release date yet for the third coming, but in the meantime, check out the trailer below.
