Stars from Barbershop: The Next Cut are giving you a behind-the-scenes scoop on what drew them to work on the Malcolm D. Lee-directed film, which will be released more than ten years after the sequel.
“The reason to do the next installment is to show that real life things that’s goin’ on on the streets,” says Ice Cube. The film, set in Chicago, is focused on how to reclaim a sense of community during times of turmoil and hardship.
“We’re at a time where it’s really necessary for communities to take action,” explained Regina Hall of the underlying theme of togetherness, which triumphs over outbursts of violence that the country has become all too used to.
The film will also mark the return of many stars who made appearances in the first productions, like Anthony Anderson, Cedric the Entertainer and Eve. Common, Nicki Minaj and Deon Cole will also star as new characters. Now that the barbershop is co-ed, the hilarity that ensues with these characters is bound to be great.
Barbershop: The Next Cut will hit theaters on Friday, Apr. 15. Check out the clip below, and get ready to laugh with this heartwarming film.
