The 2016 BET Awards was full of epic surprises Sunday night (June 26), and the trailer unveiling The New Edition Story was one that kept Black Twitter talking. The three part miniseries will chronicle the legendary group’s timeless catalogue of R&B hits and the drama that came with their ascension into stardom.
Empire’s Bryshere Gray will star as Michael Bivins and R&B singer-songwriter Luke James will take on the role of Johnny Gill. Woody McClain, Elijah Kelley, Keith Powers and Algee Smith also star as Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Ronnie Devoe and Ralph Tresvant respectively.
The New Edition Story will premiere in 2017 to the dismay of many fans, but by the looks of this trailer, it is well worth the wait. Catch fan reactions to the series’ first look below:
