Nate Parker’s Birth of a Nation hasn’t hit major theaters yet, but the film has gathered so much acclaim, that it scored Parker another film deal. The actor and director has reportedly scored another directing deal with Legendary Entertainment.
Parker’s new deal includes the license to write, direct, and produce an original feature film, according to Deadline. The title of the motion picture is currently under wraps, but its storyline reportedly involves “creating a world,” according to the publication.
But first up on Parker’s agenda is Birth of Nation, the film in which he stars, directs, and produces. Set in the antebellum South, the film is a biopic of Nat Turner (played by Parker) who led the slave rebellion. Turner, a literate slave and preacher, accepts the task of preaching to unruly slaves, but as he witnesses the brutality done against his fellow slaves, he orchestrates a rebellion in hopes of leading them to a better tomorrow.
The rights to the film were bought for $17.5 million, making it the highest paid film at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was first shown. Birth of Nation will hit theaters on October 7.
