Vampire Diaries star Katerina Graham is temporarily trading in her witchy wares as BFF Bonnie Bennett to show off her sweet dancing feet; the 21-year old is currently shooting Honey 2, the sequel to the 2003 release starring Jessica Alba. This time out the story will follow the movement adventures of Maria Ramirez, “a street chick” from New York City.
Directed by Bille Woodruff, the straight to DVD release will continue the long cinematic thread throughout many modern performance-themed films from the 1980’s—Fame and Breakin‘ to the 2000s—You Got Served and Stomp The Yard where urban youth characters discover their life’s purpose and identity through the exhilirating world of dance. “My character is from the hood,” says Graham. “She’s gone through stuff, always has to prove herself and dancing is her way of expressing herself.”
The Switzerland native also admits the actual shooting of all the dance battle scenes create their own amount of “craziness”, but she’s holding her own with her sometimes intimidating male Honey 2 costars. “This is the first film where I’m the lead, I work everyday and I don’t get a day off. But, I’m busting the moves, I’m keeping up with the boys and I’m bringing it,” says Graham about the film, due to hit stores by Christmas or early 2011. “I have rehearsals [almost] everyday. I’m always like— I need to take a shower, oops, don’t have time, gotta get into my dress, into my shoes. I’m a hot mess girl.”—Ronke Idowu Reeves
