The Bridesmaid and The Heat director will produce and oversee the upcoming Peanuts feature for 20th Century Fox Animation.
Based on the iconic Charles Schultz comic strips, Paul Feig will achieve his dream of helming a Peanuts project. “Growing up, Peanuts was my Star Wars,” he told Deadline. “Charles Schulz’s characters influenced everything in my career, especially Freaks And Geeks.”
As Feig’s first animated project, he will be joined by the late Schulz’s son Craig Schulz and grandson Bryan Schulz with writing partner Cornelius Uliano. There’s no word yet on who will voice Lucy, Charlie, Linus, and the gang, or if the classic TV voice actors will reprise their roles.
The as-yet-to-be titled film already is pegged for a November 6, 2015 release date, commemorating the 65th anniversary of the comic and the 50th anniversary of the first Charlie Brown Christmas special. As an added bonus, this marks the first time the Peanuts gang will appear on the big screen.
