Wednesday afternoon (January 20) Stacey Dash had Black Twitter up in arms (again) after her comments surrounding the recent backlash over the lack of diversity in this year’s Oscar nominations. The Clueless actress, who turned 49 today, suggested the solution is to do away with Black History Month and BET.
“I think it’s ludicrous. We have to make up our minds; either we want to have segregation or integration. If we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards, and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard […] Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month. We’re American, that’s it.”
The incendiary comments were just the latest of several made by Dash, which caused many online to react, including Bun B. Bun took to his Instagram page to blast Dash saying she suffers from self hate and even went as far as called her a coon.
“You’re black,” Bun said in his caption.”Hating yourself and us won’t make them love you.” Bun is just one person who was vocal about Dash’s comments. BET decided to showcase their fluency in the language of pettiness by literally asking for their money back.
