
Barkhad Abdi’s road from limousine driver to Academy Award nominated actor has all the markers for a classic success story. Ever since his riveting turn in the 2013 flick Captain Phillips, the verdict has been up in the air as to whether the silver screen newcomer can parlay his fame into a longstanding acting career. However, it looks like our doubts have finally been put to rest. According to Variety, Abdi has joined the cast for the upcoming sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner.

Abdi joins a stellar cast of A-list talent that includes Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright and Harrison Ford. The film, which will be helmed by Alcon Entertainment, will take place several decades after the original. The sequel is set to be released by Warner Bros. in America on Oct, 6 2017.
