Late last year, talks surfaced about a possible sequel to the Ryan Coogler-directed film, Creed. The same characters that performed in the blockbuster reel might return for a second bout, possibly adding a pivotal figure to the movie.
Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise, and serves as the father of Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan), says he’s not opposed to reprising his role in the film that’s slated to teeter between the past and present.
“If I could get a role as cool at this point as Rocky’s was, then, yeah, in a heartbeat I’d be back in,” Weathers said per a report by People. “It’s always about the role. Just to say to be Apollo Creed again, I don’t think that’s enough for any actor. You want to see what the character’s about at this particular point.”
Sylvester Stallone also hinted at Weathers’ possible return after he dived into the potential plot that Coogler had in mind. “Ryan has some ideas going forward and backward and actually seeing Rocky and Apollo together,” he said. “Think of ‘The Godfather 2.” That’s what he was thinking of, which was kind of ambitious.”
Coogler might not return as director, according to Stallone, given his new venture as visionary for Marvel’s Black Panther film. Since that news, no updates have arrived on whether or not “Creed 2” will definitely be in production.
