Good news for Avengers fans, as Agent Coulson will be back! But this time on the small screen!
Clark Gregg, who played the dutiful S.H.I.E.L.D. agent throughout all of Marvel’s standalone superhero films, as well as the blockbuster picture “The Avengers,” will appear in Joss Whedon’s upcoming ABC TV pilot entitled S.H.I.E.L.D.
The plot will focus on the secret government agency, its agents, and cool spy missions throughout the known (and unknown) worlds within the Marvel universe. In a taped message that played for nerds, fans and geeks at this past weekend’s New York Comic-Con, Joss commented on Clark, saying, “We all love Clark Gregg, there’s not doubt about that. From before we made ‘The Avengers,’ we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death.”
Marvel chief Kevin Feige also confirmed the news to the excited crowd, saying, “There was never going to be a ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ show without Agent Phil Coulson!”
While it is still not yet know if Samuel L. Jackson, who played Nick Fury on the big screen, or any of the other Avengers characters or the actors who portray them on the big screen, will appear in the pilot or the series — it is great news to hear the TV show getting such a proven and beloved character.
Production on the pilot has already begun.
