The Oscar award winning actor, who won for his portrayal of Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, will play the former Secretary of State in an upcoming biopic that will focus on the events leading up to the Iraq War.
According to the A.V. Club, the new movie will be titled Powell, and the moments of the White House official’s 2002 speech to the United Nations will unfold across the big screen. For those who missed out on history class, you can watch the speech here.
Powell will be written by Ed Whitworth (Reykjavik), who’s begun to make a name for himself out of dramatizing recent history. Wright also has an Mi6 drama in the works which will star Colin Firth.
In 2008’s film W, Jeffrey Wright originally played Colin Powell, but this marks the first time the influential Republican has ever had a standalone film of his own.
Since the intended release date and cast list are currently unknown, we will keep you up-to-date as more develops around this project.
