After starring as a young Dr. Dre in F. Gary Gray’s blockbuster hit Straight Outta Compton, Corey Hawkins has landed the highly coveted role as the lead in FOX’s 24 reboot, 24: Legacy.
Variety reports Kiefer Sutherland will not return as the show’s resident badass, and that title will go to the 27-year old actor. Hawkins, who has also landed a recurring role on the cult favorite The Walking Dead, will star as Eric Carter in the 13-episode pilot.
Carter is described as strong and smart and survived a rough childhood and adolescence in Virginia, but turns his life around while in the Army Rangers. Now married to his wife Nicole (the female lead, hasn’t been cast yet) he must fight when his past comes back to haunt him.
Before filming for 24:Legacy begins, Hawkins, a D.C. native, will star in the King Kong prequel film Skull Island.
We see you, Corey. We see you!
