The former Kentuckian and longtime actress is considering a run for office. Is she serious, or is she just making headlines? You be the judge after the break!
Ashley Judd has been an avid and active supporter of Tennessee Democrats. But in a statement she released last Friday, Judd managed to not rule out a run for U.S. Senate in her home state, while sidestepping the question at the same damn time.
“I cherish Kentucky, heart and soul,” she said, “and while I’m very honored by the consideration, we have just finished an election, so let’s focus on coming together to keep moving America’s families, and especially our kids, forward.”
Judd, who lives in Tennessee, would have to relocate and re-establish a residence in Kentucky before she could even challenge Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in his 2014 re-election bid. Meanwhile, no active political Democrats have stepped forward to challenge McConnell, a keen politico himself, who already has $6.8 million in the bank for his re-election.
Holding criticism for those who are pushing for the acclaimed actress to announce her candidacy, McConnell’s campaign manager Jesse Benton said, “Sen. McConnell and his wife are big fans of Ashley Judd’s movies and appreciate her energy, especially when it comes to bringing young people into the political process.” But we guess it’s not good enough if she was to ever decide to step into the squared circle against the longtime Kentucky senator, huh?!
