Cuba Gooding Jr. is taking on a new role this year, that of Samuel Woodward, a runaway slave who links his fearlessness and perseverance to his great grandfather.
The movie titled Freedom takes place in 1856, and connects the stories of Gooding’s character and Captain John Newton, an overseer on a ship during the transatlantic slave trade where Woodward’s great grandfather changes Newton’s life tremendously.
Inspired by true events, the film, which arrives June 5, is directed by Peter Cousens, and also receives appearances from Sharon Leal, William Sadler, and Terrence Mann.
