The Roc Boys aren’t in the building tonight, but they will be coming to a silver screen near you. Dame Dash revealed in an interview, posted yesterday (Apr. 19) by Hip Hop Motivation, that a Roc-A-Fella biopic is definitely underway.
One-third of the founding trio, which also included Jay Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, will be spearheading the film offering a perspective that, Dash claims, no one will be expecting. The music executive let’s us know that there’s more that went on behind the scenes than what the public may have perceived.
“Why would I make a recreation of what everyone saw? I want to make things that no one knew. I want to attack it a way that no one would attack it,” he says. “If I do it from my perspective, it probably won’t be what everyone is thinking. I won’t do it unless it’s something interesting.”
As we all know from either witnessing the rise and fall of the hip-hop powerhouse or hearing about it in songs or reading it in our favorite magazines and books, it’s a historic understanding that Dash was dumped without warning. But in the interview with Hip Hop Motivation, the co-founder admits that he left the dynasty before sh** hit the fan.
“People don’t realize, I spent a lot of time trying to get away from that life. I had already left Roc-A-Fella before the big… I had quit but I just didn’t make a big announcement. I had already went to Roc-a-Wear.”
Dame Dash continues to attest to the fact that the life that came along with the Roc-A-Fella imprint just didn’t mesh with him. He lost interest and just didn’t “feel like doing it anymore.” He claims, “[That] world didn’t feel right no more, their principles were so different than mine that I didn’t fit in, I didn’t want to fit in.”
