Fresh off the heels of his final performance in the Broadway juggernaut Hamilton, fast rapper and actor Daveed Diggs seems to be parlaying his theatrical success into sustainable longevity on film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Diggs, who earned a Tony Award for his portrayal of Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette, will be joining the cast of Wonder, an adaptation of the best-selling young adult novel by R.J. Palacio.
Daveed’s inclusion rounds out a cast that includes Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay, the young actor who captured critics’ attention with his performance in Room. Tremblay will play Auggie Pullman, a young boy born with a facial deformity who experiences bullying as he begins life as a fifth-grader at a private elementary school. Diggs is set to portray Auggie’s teacher.
