David Simon, creator of the HBO classic, The Wire, maybe venturing into titillating territory with his new show.
Titled The Deuce, Simon and business partner George Pelecanos have crafted a show that details the legalization and rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square during the 1970s and 80s, all the way up to the HIV and cocaine epidemic.

Contracts haven’t been signed, so there’s no definite HBO, which was also home to Simon’s Treme, will pick up the show. But don’t think Simon was gung-ho about creating a show full of bouncing boobies and back shots. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Simon expressed much apprehension.

“George and I looked at each other and said, ‘I don’t wanna make a porn show. … I’m married with kids and lawn furniture. I don’t want to go there, man. That’s dark.
However, Simon a longtime journalist turned show runner, delved into the dark world of the porn industry and couldn’t resist telling a story. But don’t think the show is going to be all T&A.
“You don’t want to make porn to critique porn because that would be a venal journey — nor do you want to look down on people because that also is fairly dishonest,” he said. “You really have to land it in such a way where it’s a story about people and it’s a story about markets — about the moment where something became legal and profitable and what happens to people in that environment when markets prevail”
