A sneak peek of the CGI and live-action re-imagining of the Disney classic, The Lion King, has arrived.
The 1:33 preview starts with the rising of the sun, much like the first scene in the 1994 animated film, and shows Simba’s welcome to the world before the animal kingdom at Pride Rock. Actor James Earl Jones‘ iconic voice rings as Mufasa, teaching Simba about what it means to be king.
“Everything the light touches is our kingdom, but a king’s time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, the sun will set on my time here and will rise with you as the new king.”
With the opening song, “Circle of Life,” soundtracking the mini-trailer, nostalgic scenes like the deadly stampede and Mufasa and Sarabi, standing by as Rafiki presents the future king (Simba) to the animal kingdom.
According to the video’s description, director Jon Favreau’s all-new The Lion King will take us all the “African savanna once more where a future king (Simba) must overcome betrayal and tragedy to assume his rightful place on Pride Rock.”
Donald Glover will voice the adult Simba while JD McCrary will voice a young Simba. Beyoncé will play Nala, while Alfre Woodard plays Sarabi. Seth Rogan and Billy Eichner will be Timon and Pumbaa. John Kani will play Rafiki, with John Oliver as voice Zazu and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar.
Disney’s The Lion King hits theaters Friday, July 19, 2019. Watch the remake teaser above and relive the original film’s opening scene below.
