The latest agreement, which involves several of Disney’s upcoming tentpole films, will get an IMAX release. “Disney has enjoyed a terrific ongoing collaboration with IMAX, and we are thrilled to extend this relationship with a collection of exciting, highly anticipated cinematic events that are perfect for the immersive IMAX format,” said Alan Bergman, president of The Walt Disney Studios, in a statement.
With multiple projects waiting in the wings to be shuttered out to a hungry and willing audiences, fans will potentially see a lot of Marvel in the 15/70 film format. “Disney’s and Marvel’s larger-than-life characters and dynamic universes clearly resonate with our core audiences,” said Greg Foster, senior executive vice president of IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment, in his own statement. Projects such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Avengers: Age of Ultron will do big numbers on IMAX screens upon their respective releases.
In the past, Disney’s movies have enjoyed much success when released through IMAX, as such films as The Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story, and Cars all sold out well and went on to have numerous sequels.
