When rumors began to swirl a Miles Davis biopic would hit theaters, fans of the late musician were curious to see which actor would dare step into the shoes of the man who masterfully created 1959’s Kind of Blue. In 2006, when Davis was posthumously being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his nephew Vince Wilbourn told reporters the only man capable of doing his uncle justice was Academy-Award nominated actor Don Cheadle. Nearly 10 years later, fans now have their first look at the trailer for the Miles Davis biopic, Miles Ahead.
In the two-minute trailer, a fictitious Rolling Stone reporter Dave Braden played by Ewan McGregor disrupts Davis’ privacy during the trumpeter’s musical silent years and rings his doorbell with the intent of writing his comeback story. Instead, Braden gets an unexpected fist to the face, which isn’t totally off base as Davis was equal parts talented and crass.
From there fans will see Davis as he tweaks his work on his soon-to-be released record only to realize his tape of precious studio sessions has been stolen, which then snowballs into a race to get back his material.
Miles Ahead, which was co-written and directed by Cheadle, hits theaters April 1. Peep the trailer below.
