Thanks to 50 Cent, TV viewers have been comparing his hit Starz series Power to Fox’s new TV goldmine, Empire. Since the rap mogul accused Empire of copying his marketing for Power last year, 50 Cent has taken a series of subtle (and not-so subtle) shots at the Lee Daniels-directed show. This week, Empire saw a slight dip in ratings from its season two premiere, with 18 percent less viewers. This of course, was a wide open lane for slander from Fif.
In an Instagram post that was later deleted, 50 Cent made a quip about Empire’s ratings. Reposting commentary from a page titled @industryonblast_ – which blamed the drop in viewers on “extra gay stuff or celebrity stuff” – the Power star urged Taraji P. Henson’s character to seek his assistance.
“COOKIE CALL ME BABY. I’ll tell every body to watch the show for you,” he wrote in his own caption:
After the airing of Empire’s second episode, 50 Cent also employed a Chief Keef meme to further express his feelings about the show. “EMPIRE,Dats that shit I don’t like,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Empire still owns Wednesday nights, snagging 16 million viewers for is second episode of season two. The whopping total placed the show way ahead of its competitors, including ABC’s Modern Family (8.6 million viewers) and Black-ish (6 million viewers), CBS’s Criminal Minds (9.9 million viewers) and NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (6.8 million viewers).
Lucious and them ain’t got no worries yet.
