An Empire-esque production is bound to hit theaters pretty soon. The writers of the Wednesday night sensation, Carlito Rodriguez and Malcolm Spellman, are in the works of creating another musically centered piece, but this time for the silver screen, the Hollywood Reporter states.
This go-round it’ll be about the co-founder of Sugar Hill Records, the late Sylvia Robinson, who was also known to be the “Mother of Hip-Hop.” The duo will be collaborating for the first time ever, in a movie sense, for the up and coming film as they take it way back with the story of one of hip-hop’s most influential innovators.
The untitled Warner Bros. project is reported to give an insight on how Robinson became such a legendary female figure in the male dominated world of hip-hop and how she made a splash onto the industry with the old school Sugar Hill Gang hit “Rapper’s Delight.” With Empire writers like Rodriguez and Spellman behind the project, there will be an ample amount of musical genius to bring the groundbreaking story to life in much of any hip-hop fan’s delight.
