Christian Bale gets rid of the Dark Knight cape and cowl in favor of Moses cloths and walking stick in Ridley Scott’s Exodus.
2014 will find the trends shifting from slaves and young adult films to Biblical epics, as Darren Aronofsky’s Noah with Russell Crowe and Exodus plan on leading the pack.
The film will see Christian Bale embracing the role that Charlton Heston made famous, as the sandals-wearing prophet. The former Batman can be seen in this first image from the film (above) wearing some fine wares and riding a gallant horse.
For those who fell asleep in Bible study, the story of Moses found him as a baby in the bullrushes, abandoned by a desperate mother when the then-Pharaoh ordered the murder of the first male newborns among his slaves. Discovered by the Pharaoh’s young daughter, he was raised within the royal family, alongside the future Rhamses II (who will be played by Joel Edgerton). A speech from a burning bush convinced Moses that he was the one to lead the Israelite slaves to freedom, which includes parting the Red Sea and a 40-year-trek through the desert.
Exodus will also star Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley, John Turturro and Indira Varma. It is scheduled to hit theaters December 2014.
