The new Fox show Empire has gotten its fair share of criticism for not reflecting the “true operation of the music industry” or even “copying” the story line of 50 Cent’s Starz hit Power. However, all that shade will not stop the show from prospering.

Although Empire is only in its first season, the show has gained 13.8 million viewers and a 5.3 rating among adults 18-49. With a new episode every week, the hour-long program pulls in a larger audience than the last one. The drama is also expected to release an accompanying soundtrack with features from Mary J. Blige, Juicy J, Charles Hamilton, Jennifer Hudson, Rita Ora, Courtney Love, and Estelle.
