Since the series premiere of Atlanta, the surreal comedy birthed by Donald Glover has received critical praise. The artist can continue to deliver more stories about Earn, Paper boi and Darius now that FX has renewed the series for a second season.
According to Deadline, Glover’s series and other freshman comedy Better Things have been surefire hits for the network. Atlanta earned the title of the most-watched telecast of a new comedy with its ratings in the adult 18-49 demographic growing from 1.3 million to 1.9 million. The show has been praised by critics for a realistic depiction of young African-Americans today. “I wanted to show white people, you don’t know everything about black culture,” Glover told Vulture last month. “I know when I go to Baltimore when I go to D.C., it’s like 50-50 — half of them are like, ‘I love this dude, this dude’s cool.’ And the other half are like, ‘This coon-ass dude, but I have no hate in my heart for no black person ever. Because we’re in a position where the system has fucked us up so bad we can’t always trust each other.”
Atlanta airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
