Guy Pearce being in Iron Man 3 isn’t meant to imply he has a co-starring gig.
In an interview with Vulture, the celebrated actor mentioned that his role in Iron Man 3 is but a mere, oh, hell, we’ll let him explain it:
“The main difference was that, when I did The Time Machine, I was pretty much in all of it, so it was a really grueling experience. Prometheus and Iron Man are really kind of cameo stuff, so the experience of shooting them … I mean, on some level, it’s tricky because you feel like a bit of an outsider. You don’t really live the experience that you do when you’re there all day, every day with everybody. But at the same time, it can be more fun sometimes because you’re just working in concentrated spurts.
Pearce, who will be playing Dr. Aldrich Killian, signifies that Iron Man 3 will be taking a turn in direction and tone towards the more adult, Extremis saga. Within the context of the stories, Killian is the brainchild behind the Extremis virus alongside Maya Hansen. He steals a sample of the virus and sells it to domestic terrorists, but, unable to cope with the guilt, he confesses in a note and shoots himself.
Could this be the possible scene that will be featured in Tony Stark’s upcoming adventure? Unfortunately, we will have to wait until next summer to find out.
Written and directed by Shane Black (and co-written by Drew Pearce), Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton. The third installment of the popular Marvel franchise will hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
