Halle Berry will make her directional debut in the mixed martial arts film Bruised, reports Deadline Hollywood.
The 52-year-old will also star in the action drama, taking on the role of Jackie “Justice,” a disgraced MMA fighter who has seemingly failed at her only passion.
Forced to conquer her own demons when Manny, her 6-year-old son, returns to her doorstep after years of neglect, Jackie readies herself for the most important fight of her career. Gearing up to face one of the fiercest rising stars of the MMA world, the plot follows Jackie as she ultimately fights to become the mother her kid deserves
Written by Michelle Rosenfarb and produced by Basil Iwanyk, Bruised will start production this coming March. Berry is currently in production on John Wick 3 and will reunite with the crew that creates the fight choreography for the John Wick franchise’s forthcoming film.
Represented by Management 360 and WME, the mother of one is the only black woman to win an Oscar for Best Actress with her performance in 2001’s Monster’s Ball.
