What are some other wannabe meme film movies that you’d like to see in the oncoming years? Lil Bub? Charlie The Unicorn?
If you’re not turned off by Internet memes, then you’ll be happy to hear that Grumpy Cat (aka the 2013 Meme of the Year award winner) is set to get her very own movie. According to Deadline, the moody feline queen of Facebook is at the center of a feature-film project being put together by her managers and Hollywood production company Broken Road (Are We Done Yet?, Jack and Jill).
Grumpy, whose real name by her owners is Tardar Sauce, will be given the power of speech and launched into a Garfield-style feature film.
Ben Lashes, Grumpy Cat’s agent and a talent manager from Los Angeles, has negotiated the movie deal and plans to help this unhappy cat camper to become an international brand and star. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Not so surprisingly, Grumpy Cat was unimpressed with her new gig. “She hates movies,” Lashes said. However, Grumpy doesn’t mind appearing in public, as she was crown the Queen of Social at this year’s SXSW where throngs of fans waited to meet their favorite celeb cat in person. Also, Grumpy will be heading to New York City this week to promote her upcoming book, Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book: Disgruntled Tips and Activities Designed to Put a Frown on Your Face, at BookExpo America.
The one-year-old cat has already starred in a Friskies ad campaign, appeared on the Today show, Good Morning America, and Anderson Cooper Live. So, get that Oscar ready because Grumpy is coming to Tinsel Town.
