A Black Lady Sketch Show is HBO’s latest series that will be executive produced by Insecure’s Issa Rae. The 30-minute sketch comedy series was created by Robin Thede from BET’s The Rundown with Robin Thede, who will serve as the show’s writer and executive producer alongside Rae, Vulture reports.
The series will recount the lives of its black women cast with a comedic twist, backed by celebrity appearances throughout the show’s duration. This isn’t Thede’s first collaboration with Rae as the former has worked with the latter’s production company, Issa Rae Productions. The two executive producers of the series will also be joined by actress and head writer of The Rundown with Robin Thede, Lauren Ashley Smith, who will serve as a co-executive producer.
Both Thede and Smith have taken to social media to express their excitement on the show’s greenlight. “I created A Black Lady Sketch Show because I love how many insanely funny black women are grinding in these comedy streets! It’s time the WORLD recognizes.” Thede said. “This show is going to be epic and @IssaRae and I are so honored to be bringing this project to HBO!”

This new HBO program is part of Rae’s overall deal with the network that also includes two other series, Sweet Life and Him or Her.
