Issa Rae is working to re-develop the ’90s crime thriller Set It Off. Variety announced the news on Monday (Sept. 16) that the Insecure star and co-creator will produce the re-make.
With Syreeta Singleton (Black Monday) and Nina Gloster (Star) penning the script the film is currently in its early stages. Montrel McKay of Issa Rae Productions will sit alongside Rae as a producer.
Originally directed by F. Gary Gray, Set It Off garnered $41 million at the box office. Set in Los Angeles, four friends (Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox, and Kimberly Elise) pull off a string of bank robberies.
Rae is opening up her bag and ready to receive her 2020 coins as she will star in romantic comedies The Photograph, set to be released on Valentine’s Day, and The Lovebirds unveiling on Apr. 3.
The 34-year-old teased on Instagram (Sept. 5) that Insecure season four was in the works with co-stars Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales, and Yvonne Orji.
Following a modern-day in the life of black women, Insecure highlights relatable but awkward experiences circling friendships, relationships, situationships, and the workplace.
