In the past year, Carpool Karaoke reportedly garnered nearly 300,000 views per hour on YouTube. The segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden got so big, that it is now getting it’s own spin-off series on Apple Music. So in honor of the big move, the official trailer was released on Monday (Feb. 13), and it’s looks petty damn good. You may have thought you had seen just about every celeb jam session possible, but this is only the beginning.
In the 2-minute clip, John Legend and Alicia Keys begin the sing-alongs, rocking out to Alicia’s Grammy-winning track “Fallin’.” The clip then cuts to Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan, who hilariously raps along to Nelly’s 2001 hit, “E.I.” Ariana Grande also hops in the car to belt out some powerful notes, while Will Smith recites the words to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song, and Taraji P. Henson dances around in the back seat. John Cena and Shaquille O’Neal are also featured in the trailer.
In some ways, the series seems to follow much of the same format. All of the artists appear to be singing along to their greatest hits, and there seems to be a conversation portion of the ride. “Old white women think I’m Pharrell sometimes,” John Legend said in the trailer. With all of its traditions still intact though, the news series is definitely gotten bigger. Corden doesn’t appear to be riding with all of his celeb guests (in the past episodes, stars would be helping get him to work), and at times they are not even in a car at all. Chelsea Handler and The X-Factor’s Blake Shelton stop to share a drink at the bar. Additionally, the show is tackling the land and sky, with Will Smith and Corden singing R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” from inside a helicopter.
Carpool Karaoke: The Series will reportedly feature 16 pairings, and the videos will be available on Apple Music. It’s still unclear if there is a specific date to access the episodes however. Check out the funny trailer below.
