Janelle Monae‘s enviable resume keeps getting longer and longer with each blink of the eye. The self-proclaimed “Electric Lady” has wowed audiences with her ability to flow between music and TV/film with ease, as evidenced by standout roles in Moonlight and Hidden Figures.
Now, Monae is set to star in Disney’s live-action reboot of the 1955 animated film, Lady and the Tramp. According to Deadline, Monae will be the voice of Peg, the spunky friend of the main character, Lady. She’ll be voice-starring alongside gal-pal Tessa Thompson, who will play Lady, and Justin Theroux, who stars as Tramp.
Other cast members include DOPE‘s Kiersey Clemons, Thomas Mann, Benedict Wong, Ashley Jensen and Yvette Nicole Brown. The remake is scheduled to hit Disney’s forthcoming streaming service, which is reportedly set to launch sometime in 2019. In addition to the Disney classic, Monae has also been booked to star in Harriet, Focus Features’ forthcoming biopic about Nicki Minaj’s favorite historical heroine, Harriet Tubman.
And let’s not forget that Monae has not slowed down on her performance grind. She is currently still basking in the glow of her latest album Dirty Computer, releasing mini-movies to support it and blessing dedicated fans with tour dates from now through the end of October. Carry on with the slay, Ms. Monae.
