The fate of Jason Mitchell’s character on the Showtime series The Chi has been decided. The drama reported that his Brandon Johnson persona will be killed off during season three. The New Orleans native was fired from the show in May after sexual harassment allegations against him went public.
Variety reports that the allegations were made by the series’ executive producer Ayanna Floyd and co-star Tiffany Boone (Jerrika Little). “There is a lot of great life in The Chi and there’s also death in The Chi and that’s how we’ll be dealing with it,” said Showtime’s co-president of entertainment, Gary Levine.
Mitchell reportedly engaged in similar inappropriate behavior on another film set, Netflix’s Desperados, where he was removed from that project and dropped from his agency UTA, as reported by Deadline.
“[Fox 21] conducted [a] thorough investigation. After that investigation, we all made the decision that it was appropriate at that time to give him some training and guidance on appropriate behavior on set,” said fellow Showtime president of entertainment, Jana Winograde.
The Chi creator Lena Waithe made an appearance on Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” earlier this year to speak on the allegations against Mitchell, admitting that she wished she acted immediately after becoming aware of the incident. Waithe confronted Mitchell at the end of the show’s first season during a sexual harassment training on set.
Mitchell has yet to speak out in response to the sexual harassment allegations.
