The #LawrenceHive took a bullet to the chest when it was revealed their leader, Jay Ellis, wouldn’t return to HBO’s Insecure for the third season. Not to fret though, Mr. Ellis has rebounded with a new gig and is doing quite well for himself.
According to Deadline, Ellis will star opposite Tom Cruise in the forthcoming Top Gun: Maverick film set to hit theaters July 12, 2019. Ellis, however, isn’t the only new addition to the flight school action-drama. The Joseph Kosinski-directed movie boasts a diverse cast including Thomasin McKenzie, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez, Monica Barbaro. Val Kilmer, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller are also in the second installment of the classic American film.
More than 30 years ago, Tom Cruise starred in the classic Top Gun. A 24-year-old Cruise played Maverick sent to the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School to hone his skills as a pilot. However, his character’s arrogance merited the ire of other pilots in the school, including Kilmer’s character Iceman. The 1986 film went onto earn $386 million domestically.
There’s no word on what angle the new film will take, but it’s kinda lit that Jay Ellis is in the film.
