The day we hoped wouldn’t come will soon arrive. After announcing in February that he would relinquish his role as The Daily Show host on Comedy Central, Jon Stewart has now revealed the firm date for his final show.
During Monday night’s broadcast (April 20), Stewart told the audience that he would wrap on Aug. 6. “I will be wearing a suit. I will more than likely be showered,” he said of his last day before playing off the crowd’s disappointment. “I’m sorry, I will be wearing overalls and I won’t shower. So I hope that you will join us for that program.”
Daily Show Stans haved joined Stewart & Co. for his 16-year tenure since starting in 1999. His departure will welcome Trevor Noah, a 31-year-old South African comic, into the fold as Stewart’s successor.
Stewart recently gave Noah the ultimate co-sign after Noah’s past tweets sparked controversy. He said, “I do hope you give [Noah] an opportunity to earn that trust and respect because my experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual, and man, I think, you give him that time, and it’s going to be well worth it.”
The Noah-helmed Daily Show is slated to air this fall.
