After many delays, Bill Cosby’s sexual assault trial against Andrea Constand is officially underway. The former comedian and actor reportedly arrived at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Pennsylvania on June 5, where he faces allegations of allegedly drugging and assaulting the former Temple University employee. By his side was Keshia Knight Pulliam, who previously played Cosby’s youngest TV daughter, Rudy Huxtable on the NBC sitcom.
Photos taken outside of the courtroom show Pulliam lending an arm to the elderly and visually-impaired Cosby as they entered the building. Both appeared to be smiling, although neither said anything to reporters, New York Daily News reports. Pulliam isn’t the only member of his TV family who has shown support for Cosby. Phylicia Rashad has also been unwavering in her belief in Cosby’s innocence. Although she is not expected to show in court due to rehearsals for an upcoming theater production, she has previously said the allegations brought against her former TV husband were a clear attempt to destroy his legacy. Cosby has also alleged that his current legal woes are motivated by racism.
But not all people in the Huxtable family are necessarily on board. In the May 2017 cover story for Allure magazine, Zoe Kravitz commented on her mother, Lisa Bonet’s feeling about the case, suggesting that Bonet wasn’t pleased. “I don’t think she wants to hear about anyone being abused, especially by someone she spent so much time with,” she said of her mother, who played Denise Huxtable on the show. “It feels s****y. You want to shower.”
The 79-year-old reportedly faces three counts of aggravated indecent assault, according to CNN. Cosby initially denied allegations when Constand first alerted authorities in 2005, but in his 2006 deposition, he admitted to engaging in consensual sexual acts with his accuser. Despite resistance from Cosby’s legal team, the deposition, which was unsealed in 2015, will reportedly serve as testimony, CNN reports.
