Fans have seen a peek of what the upcoming Jumanji film has to offer, and its future looks less cheesy and more enticing. Kevin Hart shared a photo from the first day of filming via Instagram Monday evening (Spet. 19), with castmates Dwayne Johnson, funnyman Jack Black and Karen Gillian.
Johnson previously shared concept art for his character, Dr. Bravestone, telling fans the movie will not be a remake, but a continuation of the 1995 film. Fans quickly met the concept with restraint, given its nostalgia and the absence of the late Robin Willams. The new film will also pay homage to the comedian in a special way.
“An important thing that I want, to be honest, and bring up is Robin Williams,” Johnson said in May. “The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of “Alan Parrish” will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanji in an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud.”
From the looks of it, Johnson is leading the journey with a wise Black, a fearless Gillian and a spooked Hart.
Directed by Jake Kasdan (New Girl, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story), the film is bound to feature plenty of other surprises. Jumanji will hit theaters July 28th, 2017.
