On the heels of the 25th anniversary of the L.A. Riots, National Geographic launched the trailer for their “LA 92” documentary. Supported by an award-winning production and direction crew, the film is to debut raw footage that will offer “a fresh perspective to a pivotal moment” in history by re-examining riots from “a multitude of vantage points.”
The trailer provides a visual historic revival of the undiluted violence that erupted in Los Angeles following the non-guilty verdict of the cops involved in the Rodney King trial.
The documentary seeks to use this tragic stint in history to discuss issues that still echo in modern day society. A church leader is captured belting to his audience much of the frustration that exists today between the #BlackLivesMatter movement and police brutality: “My people have suffered not only civil rights, but the right to be human beings. How many more Rodney Kings does it have to be?” While President George H.W. Bush, Sr. can be foreshadowing the rhetorics of the current 45th: “I will use whatever force is necessary to restore order.”
If Chicago doesn’t fix the horrible “carnage” going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!
