Lauren Vélez is officially coming back to New York Undercover. The actress will reportedly reprise her role as Nina Moreno in ABC’s reboot of the cop drama series, Deadline reports.
Vélez is also joining Malik Yoba, who previously played J.C. Williams on the original show.
The original series starred Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo as undercover detectives. It was the first police drama on U.S. television to feature two people of color in starring roles in the 1990s.
The reboot will pick up 20 years later and will follow detectives Nat Gilmore and Melissa Ortiz as they investigate the most dangerous criminals in the city. Yoba’s character will now be overseeing New York’s fourth precinct. Vélez’s character, on the other hand, is retired but still has connections to the unit.
The New York Undercover reboot comes from Wolf Films’ Arthur Forney and Peter Jankowski. It will begin filming in Mar. 2019 and premiere on ABC.
