The classic, 2001 stoner film How High is finally getting a sequel, nearly 17 years after the first one was released. To give the film a more youthful vibe, Lil Yachty has reportedly been cast as a lead. On Tuesday (Sept. 25), Lil Boat announced that he would be starring in How High 2 for MTV.
“I got some exciting news for all my fans and all my haters out there, and all the smokers,” Yachty said in a video post on social media. “I want to be the first to announce that we are in production of the long-awaited sequel of How High 2, starring me, you know what I’m saying?”
Yachty will reportedly play Roger, who is the entrepreneurial younger brother of one of the main characters in the film, according to MTV. The film has already started shooting in Yachty’s hometown of Atlanta on today (Sept. 25).
As you may remember, the original film starred Redman and Method Man star as Jamal and Silas. The movie centered on the two smoking a magical strain of weed that allowed them to excel on their college entrance exams and make it to Harvard University.
Yachty seems to be an odd choice to play in the film, since the 21-year-old rapper has previously stated that he does not smoke marijuana, drink alcohol, or partake in any illegal drug use. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how Yachty brings life to his character.
How High 2 will be released sometime in 2019. Check out Lil Yachty’s video announcement below.
