Lupita Nyong’o will be crossing over into production for her newest endeavor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will be teaming up with her 12 Years A Slave colleague Brad Pitt to star in and produce Americanah, a film based on a novel written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, whose feminist spiel Beyoncé placed on “Flawless.”
“It is such an honor to have the opportunity to bring Ms. Adichie’s brilliant book to the screen,” Nyong’o said. “Page after page, I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze’s stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humor and heart.”
The novel depicts a love story of two young Nigerians and follows them through their immigration experience and more.
This isn’t the first time the Kenyan actress has occupied the producer’s chair. She served as the creator, director, editor and producer of the 2009 documentary, In My Genes, about the treatment of the Albino population in Kenya.
